Wednesday, October 5
January 25, 2011You'd have to agree that today felt more like August than October! Our class decided to take full advantage of that warm weather and take lessons outside for the morning. We read another book by our author of the month, Robert Munsch, entitled Smelly Socks. By the level of laughter, this was definitely one of the favorites so far! We sorted socks, colored pictures of our own socks, and created a pictograph of grade 2 socks. Using sidewalk chalk, we practised our spelling words outside on the black top. If you happen to ride your bike by this evening you'll see just how creative these kids are!
Once back inside we finished up our science books on how the different species of mammals take care of their young. I will get this book bound and finalized this week so that the students can begin taking it home next week. In Phys. Ed the students were starting on a volleyball unit. Mr. Falk asked me to attach this video on volleyball techniques in case you wished to practise these skills with your child at home or in the beach volleyball pits at the school. Video
We were very fortunate to have a guest vist our school this afternoon! Author David Bouchard visited our school to share some of his stories with us, including Nokum is my Teacher. This story fit in so well with our social studies curriculum, as we are currently learning about the Aboriginal culture. Some beautiful musicians had accompanied him to play the drums and dance while he read the story. What a great experience for our students! Our daily journal entries were full of comments about David Bouchard, so be sure to ask your child about him. I'm sure they'll have plenty to share!
Hot lunch forms, book orders, and a note about the parent advisory council meeting went home today as well.
Hope you all have a great evening! Get out and enjoy that beautiful fall sunshine!
